Managing Connections

The Connections page shows all your linked registrar accounts, their sync status, and gives you controls to trigger manual syncs or remove connections.

Viewing Your Connections

Navigate to Connections in the sidebar under Manage. Each connection is displayed as a card showing:

  • Registrar name and logo - which registrar this connection is for
  • Status badge - Active (green), Syncing (grey), Error (red), or Reconnect required (red)
  • Domain count - how many domains this connection imported, and how many were skipped if you are at your plan limit
  • Last sync time - when domains were last imported

Syncing

Connections sync automatically every 6 hours via a background cron job. To trigger an immediate sync, click the Sync button on a connection card. During sync, the status changes to "Syncing" and updates once complete.

Each sync pulls your full domain list from the registrar API, updating expiry dates, nameservers, statuses, and renewal costs. Tidy Names only performs read operations - it never modifies your domains or DNS records at the registrar.

Error States

If a sync fails, the connection status changes to Error with a red badge. Common causes:

  • Invalid or expired API credentials - the connection is marked Reconnect required and automatic syncing pauses. Generate a fresh credential at the registrar and use Update Credentials to swap it in.
  • Registrar API downtime - wait and retry; the next automatic sync will try again
  • Rate limiting - the registrar is throttling requests; syncs will resume automatically

Updating Credentials

Registrar credentials do not last forever - a GoDaddy personal access token expires after a year at most, and any token can be revoked or rotated. When you need to swap one out, click the menu icon on the connection card and select Update Credentials. Paste the new credential, click Test Connection to confirm the registrar accepts it, then Save Credentials.

Updating in place keeps the connection and everything hanging off it - your synced domains, their tags, portfolios and history all stay put. A successful update also clears the Reconnect required state and starts a fresh sync straight away.

A connection in the Reconnect required state shows an Update Credentials button on the card itself, so you do not have to go hunting through the menu to fix it.

Removing a Connection

Click the menu icon on a connection card and select Remove. This deletes the encrypted API credentials, stops automatic syncing, and removes the domains that were imported through this connection along with it. If you only need to replace an expiring credential, use Update Credentials instead - removing and re-adding loses your domain history.
