Search

Check whether a domain is available for registration or look up registration details for any domain using public RDAP data.

Searching for a Domain

  1. Go to Search in the sidebar
  2. Enter a full domain name (e.g. example.com) or just a base name (e.g. example)
  3. Click Search or press Enter

If you enter a base name without a TLD, Tidy Names automatically checks availability across eight popular extensions: .com, .net, .org, .io, .dev, .co, .app, and .xyz.

Understanding Results

Each result is displayed as a colour-coded card:

  • Green (Available) - the domain is not currently registered and may be available for purchase through a registrar
  • Red (Registered) - the domain is taken. The card shows the current registrar, expiry date, nameserver count, and status codes
  • Orange (Error) - the lookup failed, usually because the TLD doesn't support RDAP or the server was unreachable

Adding to Your Watchlist

Each search result includes an Add to Watchlist button. This lets you monitor domains you're interested in acquiring - Tidy Names will periodically check their availability and notify you of changes. See the Watchlist guide for more details.

Rate Limits

Domain lookups query public RDAP servers. To avoid overloading these services, searches are limited to 20 lookups per minute. Bulk name searches (where a base name is checked across multiple TLDs) count each TLD as a separate lookup.
