Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to site owners. Cookies may be set by the site you are visiting (first-party cookies) or by third-party services operating on that site (third-party cookies).

Strictly necessary cookies. These cookies are essential for the operation of the service, or record a choice you have made, so they do not need your consent. They include session authentication tokens, CSRF protection tokens, and load balancing identifiers. We also set one first-party cookie, tn_cookie_consent, to remember whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies; it lasts 12 months. The spam protection on our public forms (Cloudflare Turnstile) is also strictly necessary. Without these cookies, the service cannot function. These cookies cannot be disabled.

Functional cookies. When you are signed in, we set one cookie, sidebar_state, which remembers whether you left the dashboard sidebar expanded or collapsed; it lasts 7 days. It is the only functional cookie we set. Your other preferences - timezone, notification settings - are stored against your account rather than in a cookie, and you change them in your account settings. You can remove this cookie through your browser at any time; the sidebar simply reverts to its default.

Analytics cookies. With your consent, we use product analytics (PostHog) to understand how the service is used, which features are most popular, and where people run into difficulty - so we can improve it. PostHog sets cookies and does not load or run at all until you accept: reject it, and the software is never downloaded to your device. When you are signed in, this usage is associated with your account so we can improve your experience; we do not track you across other websites, build advertising profiles, or sell your data. Analytics data is processed in the United States.

Cookieless measurement. We also use Vercel Analytics, which is aggregated and cookieless - it stores nothing on your device and needs no consent. It is listed here for transparency only.

Payment processing. Stripe, our payment processor, may set cookies for fraud prevention and to process payments securely. These cookies are governed by Stripe's privacy policy.

We do not use any advertising cookies, social media tracking cookies, or other third-party cookies for marketing purposes.

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically find these options in the "Settings", "Preferences", or "Privacy" section of your browser. You can choose to block all cookies, accept all cookies, or be notified when a cookie is set.

Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in and using the Tidy Names service. Blocking the functional cookie above only means the dashboard sidebar stops remembering its state.

Analytics cookies are off until you accept them. When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or reject them and your choice is remembered. You can change or withdraw it at any time - it is as easy to say no later as it was to say yes:

Session cookies. These are temporary cookies that are deleted when you close your browser. Session cookies are used for authentication and CSRF protection.

Persistent cookies. These cookies remain on your device for a set period. The functional sidebar_state cookie persists for 7 days. The tn_cookie_consent cookie and analytics cookies persist for up to 12 months.
