Adding Domains

There are three ways to add domains to Tidy Names: connecting a registrar for automatic syncing, importing from a CSV file, or adding them manually by domain name.

Via Registrar Connection (Recommended)

Connecting a registrar is the best way to manage domains at scale. Once connected, Tidy Names automatically imports all domains from that account, including expiry dates, nameservers, auto-renew status, and renewal costs.

Connected domains are periodically synced to keep your dashboard up-to-date. See Connecting a Registrar for setup instructions.

Import from CSV

If you have a spreadsheet of domains - exported from a registrar, a billing system, or a manual tracker - you can import them in bulk using a CSV file.

How It Works

  1. Go to Domains and click Add Domain
  2. Choose Import from CSV
  3. Upload your CSV file (up to 500 rows, 5 MB max)
  4. Tidy Names automatically detects your columns - domain name, expiry date, registrar, auto-renew status, and more
  5. Preview the detected data and confirm the import

Supported Columns

The importer recognises common column names and aliases automatically. Only the domain name column is required - all others are optional:

  • Domain name (required)
  • Expiry / renewal date
  • Registrar
  • Auto-renew status
  • Cost / price
  • Nameservers

After Import

Once imported, you can optionally run DNS enrichment to fetch live DNS records, registration data, and email security analysis for every domain. Domains that already exist in your portfolio are skipped automatically.

Adding Domains Manually

If you manage domains across registrars that aren't yet supported, or want to track a domain without connecting the registrar account, you can add them one at a time.

How It Works

  1. Go to the Domains page in your dashboard
  2. Click Add Domain and choose Add Manually
  3. Enter the domain name (e.g. example.com)
  4. Click Add

Tidy Names will look up the domain using public DNS and RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) to populate:

  • Registration status and expiry date
  • Nameservers
  • Registrar name
  • DNS records (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS)

Limitations of Manual Domains

Manually added domains rely on publicly available data. Some information may not be available:

  • Renewal cost - not available via public lookups
  • Auto-renew status - only available through registrar APIs
  • Registrant details - may be redacted by WHOIS privacy

For complete data, we recommend connecting your registrar where possible.

What Happens After Adding a Domain?

Once added, each domain gets a detail page with tabs for:

  • Overview - key information at a glance
  • DNS Records - full list of DNS records
  • Domain Protection - transfer lock, WHOIS privacy, and expiration protection status
  • Email Security - SPF, DMARC, and DKIM analysis
